In 1976, I got my
first radio: a handheld AM transceiver with just four channels. I used
it to talk with a friend who lived 250 meters away. My second radio was
a Samdo 700 AM CB radio, which I still have in my collection. :-) Back
then, the whole neighborhood could hear me bleeding through on their
televisions and radios.

When CB radio was
officially legalized in 1980, we were permitted to use 0.5W in FM mode.
Citizens Band radio truly became the social media of the 1980s; almost
every rooftop in the area had an antenna installed.

In the early 1980s,
radio propagation was incredibly strong. This motivated me to upgrade
to my first CB radio equipped with SSB, paired with a 150-watt
amplifier. It was an amazing time, and it allowed me to make my very
first worldwide QSOs.

This sparked my
lifelong passion for the Ham Radio hobby. My first callsign was PD1AMS,
operating on VHF and UHF. Later on, I passed my technical examination
and obtained the callsign PE4IR, which I still proudly use today.
