PE4IR

Dutch Ham Radio Station - Delft - JO21ex - Zuid-Holland - The Netherlands

About me
In 1976, I got my first radio, a handheld AM radio with only four channels. I used it to talk with a friend who lived 250 meters away. My second radio was a Samdo 700 AM CB radio, which I still have. :-) The whole neighborhood could hear me on their televisions or radios.

In 1980, CB radio was legalized, and we were allowed to use 0.5W in FM mode. CB radio became the social media of the 1980s. Nearly every building had an antenna.

In the early 1980s, propagation was very strong, and I bought my first CB radio with SSB and a 150-watt amplifier. It was a lot of fun, and I made my first worldwide QSOs.

This was the start of the Ham Radio Hobby. My first callsign was PD1AMS - VHF and UHF
Later I passed my technical exame and requested the callsign PE4IR.
I'm still using this callsign today.
